Michael and Vicky Barr Coach's corner
Michael: I would say to any young aspiring dancers is they should study the basic steps, the basic movement, the basic concepts with a view to perfecting these. If they do that, they will find that everything else becomes easy. I know it's a cliche, but they should try to dance as naturally as possible.
Vicky: I would absolutely agree. You get the basics right and the choreography, all the difficult things, are not so difficult. And don't try and dance, for example, an overspin until you've mastered the double reverse spin. Start with the basics and work up. Then everything will look beautiful. We get grotesque body lines when people are attempting things that they don't have the skills to actually perform. So master those basic skills first.
